Weavers of Char-Lee

A Guild Promoting Hand Weaving, Hand Spinning and Fiber Arts in SW Florida

Activities 2022/2023

ECHO Global Farm Days

In our latest newsletter Susan Hedge reported on the ECHO Farm Days on March 11 and 12, 2023. She writes, If you want to know more about the wool we grow in South Florida, ask one of our spinners. We take the wool from sheep raised at ECHO, clean it, pick it, card it and spin it for sale in the gift shop there off Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers. At ECHO's annual Global Farm Days the spinners will be demonstrating how we process and spin wool from ECHO sheep.

Garden Loom Project

Guild members participated in two Garden Loom events last year, one event at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers and another event at the Naples Botanical Gardens. Guild members wove on looms constructed from recycled bamboo. The looms are built to be woven side by side with community participants.

Art Fest Fort Myers 2023

On February 4-5 the Guild had a booth at Art Fest in Riverside Park in downtown Fort Myers. Items completed by our members were on display and demonstrations of spinning and weaving were on-going, with the occasional participation of enthusiastic children.

ABOUT US

Our Guild

Originally, guilds were set up by like-minded individuals for mutual interest and benefits – to share knowledge and techniques, preserve heritage, and encourage high standards of workmanship. Whether you are a beginner or someone simply interested in weaving or spinning, we welcome you to our group.
