Weavers of Char-Lee

A Guild Promoting Hand Weaving, Hand Spinning and Fiber Arts in SW Florida

Activities 2022

Roc Day 2022

Guild spinners and weavers were at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers on Saturday, Jan. 8, to share expertise and engage our community with these crafts on Roc Day. Distaff Day or Roc Day is the day after the 12 days of Christmas when medieval women would resume their spinning work. A roc or distaff is an implement that holds the fiber for spinning onto a spindle.

Garden Loom Project

There are two recent Garden Loom events. One event was held at the Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers on December 4, 11, and 18. The next event was at the Naples Botanical Gardens on April 9. Guild members are weaving on looms constructed from recycled bamboo. The looms are built to be woven side by side with community participants.

Our Guild

Originally, guilds were set up by like-minded individuals for mutual interest and benefits – to share knowledge and techniques, preserve heritage, and encourage high standards of workmanship. Whether you are a beginner or someone simply interested in weaving or spinning, we welcome you to our group.
