Common Threads

Common Threads is a network of fiber artists in the Punta Gorda area of all skill levels and techniques who enjoy getting together informally to share knowledge and skills. Suzanne Patton started Common Threads 11 years ago and the group is now an affiliate group of the Punta Gorda Visual Arts Center.

Common Threads has a fiber arts studio in Punta Gorda History Park at 501 Shreve Street, where they have classes and an open studio.

The group has finished their first four weeks of classes which included tapestry weaving, inkle loom weaving, rigid heddle loom weaving and dyeing among as well as others. Classes are being planned for spring and summer.

The group also hosts a fiber arts open studio every Monday from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Members bring their own projects and materials to work on their own fiber art project at their own pace along with others. No instruction, just comradery, friends and fun. For Visual Art Center members only.

In addition, Common Threads members can have access to some equipment to use in the fiber art studio such as a skein winder and ball winder, yarn twister, hand bobbin winder and other items. There are also many books on all different fiber arts, which can be checked out.
